Das Einzelzeitfahren in den Straßen von Düsseldorf wird die erste Aufgabe für die Radrennfahrer der Tour de France 2017 sein. Der Start erfolgt vor der Messe, wo sich auch die Büros der Rennorganisation und das Pressezentrum befinden werden. Nach einem Streckenabschnitt auf dem rechten Rheinufer in süd-östlicher Stadtrichtung wird der Kurs den Rhein überqueren, um eine Schleife auf dem linken Ufer zu drehen, bevor er erneut den Fluss in der Gegenrichtung überquert und die Königsallee erreicht – die Pulsader der Stadt. Nach der Oper biegt der Kurs erneut Richtung Nord-Westen entlang des Rheins ab. Das Ziel wird sich in der Nähe der Messe befinden.[/vc_column_text][vcex_spacing size=“20px“][vc_column_text]Ausgangspunkt der 2. Etappe der Tour de France 2017 ist das Tonhallenufer, an dem auch das Village für die Ehrengäste und Partner der Tour de France aufgebaut ist. Über das Joseph-Beuys-Ufer rollen die Teams am 2. Juli 2017 in Richtung Burgplatz, wo sie sich offiziell einschreiben und dem Publikum präsentieren. Hier erfolgt der neutralisierte Start, ein langsames Einrollen der Fahrer. Die acht Kilometer lange Neutralisation zieht sich über die Altstadt in Richtung Medienhafen und ist für die Zuschauerinnen und Zuschauer eine besondere Gelegenheit, die Radsportler ganz nah zu erleben.

An der Living Bridge, die das Hafenbecken überspannt, hält das Fahrerfeld für eine offizielle Zeremonie, bevor es durch die Düsseldorfer Innenstadt fährt und sich zum offiziellen Start auf der Fischerstraße aufstellt. Ab hier nimmt das Feld Fahrt auf.

Nach den ersten flachen Kilometern durch die Landeshauptstadt geht es hinauf Richtung Galopprennbahn – am Grafenberger Wald kämpfen die Profis um die ersten Punkte für das Bergtrikot 2017. Von Grafenberg führt der Kurs durch Gerresheim und in die Stadt Erkrath. Anschließend schlängelt sich die 2. Etappe der Tour de France 2017 durch das Neandertal bis hinauf nach Mettmann, ehe die Fahrer Ratingen durchqueren und von dort zurück nach Düsseldorf gelangen. Damit erlebt die Tour de France ein Novum, denn erstmals führt eine Etappe aus der Stadt des Starts heraus und wieder in diese zurück.
Es folgt die Querung des Rheins über die Theodor-Heuss-Brücke in den Stadtteil Oberkassel. Bei Streckenkilometer 52 verlassen die Fahrer wieder das Düsseldorfer Stadtgebiet und gelangen durch den Rhein-Kreis Neuss, über Meerbusch nach Neuss. Das Feld durchquert die Neusser Innenstadt und erreicht dann die nordrhein-westfälische Radsporthochburg Kaarst-Büttgen. Auf dem folgenden Weg von Korschenbroich nach Mönchengladbach über die L 381 bereiten sich die Teams auf die erste Sprintwertung der Tour de France 2017 vor, die bei Kilometer 83 im Mönchengladbacher Stadtzentrum abgenommen wird. Durch den Kreis Heinsberg, vorbei am Tagebau Garzweiler 1 gelangen die Fahrer in den Kreis Düren zur historischen Stadt Jülich, die von 1794 bis 1814 zum französischen Staatsgebiet im Département de la Roer gehörte. Nach der Städteregion Aachen mit den Städten Alsdorf und Würselen, ist die Domstadt Aachen die letzte deutsche Stadt, durch die das Feld der Tour de France 2017 rollt. Über die B264 passieren die Radprofis anschließend die deutsch-belgische Grenze. Die letzten 51 Kilometer der Etappe bestreiten sie auf belgischem Boden zum Zielort der 2.
